It's been a minute since I've had items from here and was glad when they opened locations in Michigan. First visit was in Downers Grove, IL many decades ago and my last visit was a few years ago in Crestwood IL. I was very excited about receiving my free slice of cake for my birthday. As I waited for my meal, a customer and I chatted and he informed me that he didn't think the food was as tasty as it had been previously. I remained hopeful. Service was excellent and the chopped salad with chicken although now premade was delicious. Unfortunately, the chocolate cake was not as I remembered. The chocolate icing remains delicious but the cake was dense, not as flavorful, and had lots of air pockets. My meal was to go but the restaurant appeared clean and welcoming.

When my husband has the craving for his Italian beef, we head to Portillos. I'm so glad they opened here, so now I have to find him a new Father's Day gift since I don't have to send the sandwich kits to him anymore.
Portillo was first known to me while visiting my son in Arizona. My daughter in law and I had a surprise birthday party for him. Just like in Arizona, the Portillo's in Livonia is just as cool. The hot dogs are their specialty offering a variety of styles. I personally like the Chicago dogs. You basically wait in a line to order then scoot down the line to pay and pick up order when completed. There are numerous items to choose from including desserts. The restaurant is clean and well staffed. The decor is awesome too. It's definitely one of my favorite restaurants, gotta see to really appreciate. Enjoy
The chocolate cake is their famous dessert and it's good. The chocolate milkshake is made with an entire slice of its cake but I was not impressed, and I think it's because I can tell the cake is in it. It is just short of being gritty. Now the salted caramel shake stole the show! Omg! So delicious! Also, I was surprised at how much I like the Italian beef sandwich with hot peppers. Wow! I'll have more! The caramel cake was also A+.
